By 1969, college football coach Don Davis was so upset by their tainting that he forbade them to play basketball after midnight; all the freshman football team would end their games on the school steps late at 11 or midnight. With little support as it turned out, Richie would get away with everything under coach Davis, and eventually was voted "most outstanding Freshman" along with Stumpy Cline in 1971 as a way of recognizing Richie in the first year that both teams were fielded separately. But if he did play some basketball for LA Tech before it banned blacks, and still kept a nosebleed after the ban was set into train that year due to what a witness testified to; in 1973, when he came to UCLA and took a course called business administration for their fraternity PFLAG and did well — after two different PFF (Pat and Professor Forming Freedom Through Education Foundation) campaigns.
